My daughter who has swam on swim team since 4th grade is missing her time in the water in her freshman year at The New School Parson’s School of Art & Design in NYC. She is trying to get the ability to swim at NYU’s pool which is a block from where her classes are. It is in the basement and she has twice gotten close enough to smell the chlorine, but not actually see the pool. Last Friday, she went with the full intention of swimming knowing that New School students enjoy the perk of using the NYU facilities. She got so close, but they didn’t allow her to swim because the staff on duty didn’t know the policies. She went back to her dorm and shed many a tear. She said that she wouldn’t have believed she’d one day cry at the smell of chlorine and beg to swim in a pool!! That’s the power of the pool and the home vibes that the smell of chlorine can elicit!
